UMaine dispatches Hartford, 6-3

BRISTOL, Conn. — Ryan Quintal and Greg Creek each hit solo home runs as the University of Maine defeated Hartford 6-3 in an America East baseball game Monday. Quintal and Joel Barrett were the only players with multiple hits for the Black Bears (22-11, 6-3), getting two hits apiece against the Hawks (5-16, 2-7).

Maine starter Troy Martin (5-2) gave up one run in six innings for the win.

SOFTBALL

ROGER WILLIAMS 3-0, UNE 1-4: Holly White scattered seven hits over six innings, and Sarah Hamel pitched the seventh for her fourth save as the Nor'easters (14-8, 14-8 Commonwealth Coast Conference) won the second game of a doubleheader against the Hawks (28-8, 18-4) at Biddeford.

UNE scored three runs in the third on a two-run triple by Sara Twombly and a sacrifice fly by Michelle Clark. Katie Morin singled home a run in the fourth.

Twombly and Chelsea Cummings each had two hits for UNE.

The Hawks rallied for three runs in the seventh to win the opener.
