MEN'S BASKETBALL

WILLIAM & MARY 70, MAINE 67: Arizona Reid had 24 points, including two late free throws, to help High Point beat Maine 70-67 Saturday in the third-place game of the William & Mary Tip-Off Classic men's basketball tournament. After High Point jumped out to an early nine-point lead, but Maine rallied to go ahead 23-22 on a layup by Ernest Turner. But High Point quickly regained the lead and never trailed again.

Jon Sheets scored 22 points and Turner had 21 for the Black Bears, who were 18 of 18 from the foul line.

BATES 75, EASTERN CONN. STATE 57: Rob Stockwell scored 26 points as the Bobcats (2-0) beat the Warriors (1-1) in the Eastern Connecticut Tip-Off Tournament at Willimantic, Conn.

USM 97, FRAMINGHAM STATE 78: Andy Frost and Walter Phillips combined for 42 points as the Huskies (1-1) beat the Rams (0-2) in the Gordon College Tip-Off Tournament consolation game at Wenham, Mass.

Phillips, who finished with 20 points, hit a 3-pointer to spark a 14-3 run that gave the Huskies a 49-43 lead early in the second half.

BOWDOIN 78, WHITTIER 58: Kyle Petrie scored 21 points to lead the Polar Bears (1-1) over the Poets in the consolation game of the Babson Invitational at Babson Park, Mass.

Andrew Hippert had 19 points, including five during an 11-0 run that helped put the game out of reach.

UNE 90, SUFFOLK 75: Matt McManus scored 21 points as the Nor'easters (1-1) beat the Rams (0-2) at Middletown, Conn.

Mark Oliver and Nick Farynaz each chipped in 12 points.

CHICAGO 63, COLBY 53: Clay Carmody had 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Maroons won a season opener at Chicago.

Andy Jenkins had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, for Colby.

HESSER 86, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 65: Alexander Cox scored 29 points as Hesser downed the Seawolves in the Seawolves Invitational at South Portland.

Mike Gallagher had 13 points and Scott Slack added 10 for SMCC.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

USM 83, UM-FARMINGTON 50: Shannon Kynoch had 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Huskies (2-0) over the Beavers in the final of the UMF Tip-Off Tournament at Farmington.

Donna Cowing added 12 points, four rebounds and three steals in just 14 minutes for the Huskies.

UNE 70, NEC 43: Sara Pelkey and Brooke Weston each scored 13 points as the Nor'easters (2-0) handled the Pilgrims in the final of the St. Joseph College Tip-Off Tournament at West Hartford, Conn.

Essie McKinnon had 12 points and 10 rebounds for UNE.

BOWDOIN 75, ENDICOTT 29: Julia Loonin scored 16 points as the Polar Bears (1-0) routed the Gulls (0-1) in the opening round of the Eastern Connecticut Tip-Off Tournament at Willimantic, Conn.

Justine Pouravelis added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Jill Anelauskas finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

BRANDEIS 73, BATES 62: Caitlin Malcolm scored 21 points, leading the Judges (2-0) over the Bobcats (1-1) in the championship game of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament at Waltham, Mass.

Sarah Barton led Bates with 20 points, and Annie Whiting and Mary Hart each added 14.

GORDON 69, ST. JOSEPH'S 60: Kristen Helgesen scored 24 points to lead Gordon (1-1) over St. Joseph's (0-2) in the consolation game of the MIT Tip-Off Classic at Cambridge, Mass.

Brittany Rauscher paced the Monks with 17 points. Marie Lint added 14 and Kaylin Regula scored 13.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 68, HESSER 59: Erica Davis had 23 points and 17 rebounds, and the Seawolves (3-0) recovered from a 34-27 halftime deficit to beat Hesser (3-1) in the Seawolves Invitational at South Portland.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

MAINE 4, RPI 1: Danielle Tangredi had a goal and three assists as the Black Bears (6-0-1) downed the Engineers (9-1-1) at Orono.

COLBY 2, AMHERST 1: Genevieve Triganne had 17 saves as the White Mules (1-1) defeated the Lord Jeffs (0-2) at Waterville.

MANHATTANVILLE 6, USM 1: Jen Arno finished with a career-high 53 saves for the Huskies (0-5, 0-3 ECAC East), but the Valiants (4-2, 4-1) scored for four goals in the third period to pull away at Rye, N.Y.

BOWDOIN 6, CONN. COLLEGE 2: The Polar Bears (2-0) had six players score in a win over the Camels (1-1) at Brunswick.

MEN'S HOCKEY

NORWICH 6, USM 4: Garett Winder scored five goals to lead the Cadets (1-0-1) over the Huskies (0-2) at Gorham.

USM tied the game on power-play goals by Mike Stevens in the second period and Marc Santuccio in the third before Winder scored twice in the final seven minutes to clinch the win.

BABSON 5, BOWDOIN 3: The Beavers (1-1) scored the final three goals in the third period to beat the Polar Bears (1-1) at Babson Park, Mass.

COLBY 4, UMASS-BOSTON 1: Greg Osborne scored two goals and the visiting White Mules (2-0) allowed just seven shots on goal in a victory over the Beacons (0-2).
