Coach: Bob Johnston (19th year)
Last season: 2nd in KVAC Class B, 4th in Class B
Top returners: Sam Zarfos (Sr., freestyle, breaststroke, I.M.), Galen Lichterfeld (Jr., freestyle), Adrian Rivas (Jr., freestyle, breaststroke), Ben Wehry (Jr., freestyle, I.M.), Emmett deMaynadier (So., freestyle, butterfly, backstroke), Liam Edwards (So., breaststroke), Caelan Lecrone (So., freestyle, backstroke), Avery Isbell (So., freestyle)
Key newcomers: James Robe (Sr., freestyle), Dustin Shepard (Sr., freestyle, backstroke), Tharadol Kamuta (Sr., freestyle), Dylan Wilcox (Jr., freestyle, breaststroke), Sam Wehry (Jr., freestyle, backstroke), Alan Baez (Fr., freestyle, backstroke, butterfly)
Outlook: Zarfos was fifth in the 100 breaststroke at the Class B championships and also qualified for the state meet in the 200 and 500 free. deMaynadier, meanwhile, qualified for the state meet in the 200 and 500 free, while Rivas was third in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 free. Waterville’s 200 IM relay team should be strong after finishing fifth last season. Johnston has been impressed by newcomers Baez and Wehry.
Coach’s comment: “The Waterville boys team should continue to be one of the top teams in both Class B KVACs and states. Solid swimmers in Zarfos, Rivas, Ben Wehry and Emmett deMaynadier will be aided by both last year’s teammates and newcomers. Sam Wehry and Alan Baez will be able replacements for last year’s graduating seniors.”
