Coaches: Tenney Noyes (5th season) and Brooks Thompson (4th season)
Last season: 2nd Eastern Class A, tied for third 3rd in Class A
Top returners: John Swett (Jr., 120), Carter Stevens (Sr., 152), Levi Hayden (Sr., 170), Andrew Pineo (Sr., 195), Kaleb Brown (So., 145 ), Christian Jackson (Sr., 160)
Key newcomers: Tyler Craig (So., 106), Mikal Federici (Jr., 170), Luke Bolster (Fr., 113), Kameron Doucette (Fr., 132), Logan Stevens (Fr., 138), Luke Swett (Fr., 145), Julian Sirois (Fr., 126)
Outlook: Skowhegan is considered the favorite to win the Eastern Regional and should also be in contention for a state title. The Indians return four state runners-up from last season Class A tournament in Swett, Stevens, Brown, and Jackson. Hayden was third last season while Pineo was second two seasons ago. Two transfers add to the talent pool. Tyler Craig was a state champ at Mt Blue and Mikal Federici was a state qualifier for Cony.
Coach’s comment: “On paper this team looks outstanding, but it is a long season with a lot of tough matches along the way. The wrestlers have a clear goal of what they’d like to accomplish this year, and so far their work ethic in the practice room shows that they’re serious about those goals. The coaches have been very impressed with this group of newcomers. They have jumped right into the swing of things and push the veterans to improve.
