Outlook: The Cougars were one play from winning the conference title last season, falling to Leavitt in overtime of the PTC B championship game. With key players back at a number of positions, as well as some talented newcomers, Mt. Blue will contend for the title again. It starts with Whitney, who threw for more than 1,900 yards and 25 touchdowns a year ago. The four top receivers graduated, but Abbott, Hyde, Jackson, Chad Luker and Kendall are each capable of filling the void. The Cougars may be strongest on defense, where seven starters return. Chad Luke moves from defensive end to linebacker. The offensive line is young, but if it gives Whitney time to throw and opens holes for Jackson and Chad Luker, the Cougars will score plenty of points.
