Another game in Tampa, another, ho-hum, win
Curt Schilling got his fifth win and only allowed one run on Wednesday. The Hartford Courant writes Schilling enjoyed his seven innings. It's nice to see some home runs, especially from the injured Manny, but I found Wednesday's game to be a bit boring. With the bats heating up, the Red Sox should sweep up the mess tonight.

We are a little thin in our bullpen with Byung Hyun Kim in the minors and Scott Williamson injured. Boston.com says Williamson headed to Boston early for an MRI. Will the injuries ever cease? Boston has not fielded a healthy team all season, not including Nomar and Trot. According to Projo.com, the recent injuries and struggles may have pulled Kim off the trading block.

I hope with the warmer weather Derek Lowe can turn it around. Boston.com reports the sinkerballer thinks he can. NESN asks if we are concerned about Lowe's slow start? In a word, yes. We'll see tonight. If he can't beat the Devil Rays, the Red Sox may have bigger problems than injuries.

Tampa Bay may be getting a little help. TBO.com reports that Fred McGriff may return. I don't expect him in the lineup tonight, however. McGriff needs nine home runs to join the 500 club. That's quite a feat. I don't think even with 500 home runs he has enough to make the Hall of Fame. Too bad, I like McGriff.

I love live TV. It's so unpredictable. You never know what you might see. In Wednesday night's game on NESN, I was surprised to see Boston Red Sox fans arguing with a very loud Tampa Bay fan. I wasn't surprised by the argument, but by the TV coverage. During the exchange there was finger pointing, yelling and then the two Red Sox fans made an obscene gesture to the Devil Rays fan. Instead of turning away, the cameraman stayed with his subjects. After a commercial break, the cameraman returned showing the foes hamming it up together. You couldn't script it any better. While I do not condone the actions of these fans, it does show that Boston fans are defensive, offensive and fickle.

I'll be glad when the Red Sox are back home. I'm anxiously awaiting their return. Unfortunately they'll be playing a team they've played 10 times already - the Toronto Blue Jays. While I like the unbalanced schedule, I don't like lumping 10 games so close together against the same opponent. The Red Sox are 6-4 against the divisional rival, which makes sense since the team has a .600 winning percentage. Boston is now at the top the AL East.

The Blue Jays had Thursday off to think about the series against the Sox. The Toronto Star reports although they are struggling they are not complete failures, yet. The Toronto Sun reports that until the bats heat up the lineup will continue to change. Something's got to change or the Devil Rays may pass them in the standings. Ouch.
