Time for some spring cleaning
That's right, the Red Sox had the brooms out, sweeping the Yankees for the first time in almost five years. The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessey says the Red Sox have "All the bases covered in making case that this is the year. Talk about a confidence builder - they beat the Yankees at "The Stadium" without Nomar Garciaparra, Trot Nixon and Bill Mueller (Official profile) in the lineup.

The Red Sox have one heck of a pitching staff. All of Boston's starters (Lowe (Official profile),Arroyo (Official profile) and Pedro (Official profile)) pitched light's out. The Red Sox bullpen only allowed one hit and no earned runs in 11 innings. Boston has so much depth and experience, three people recorded saves over the weekend - Keith Foulke (Official profile), Mike Timlin (Official profile) and Scott Williamson (Official profile). Awesome.

This is not the New York Yankees (Official site), I've hated my whole life. I almost feel sorry for them. The Red Sox pitching staff made Derek Jeter look ridiculous. He did not get a hit the whole series. The New York Daily News said the "only reason to stick around was to boo somebody in pinstripes" and even Derek Jeter received a round. The New York Times says New York's fans are out of line. Ya think? I can't blame them. They expect the team with the highest payroll in baseball to win, so does most of the free world. But the Yankees lack team unity and character. I expect the team to continue to struggle a little bit longer.

Boston's pitchers made lots of Yankees look ridiculous. The team only scored four runs and batted .152. ESPN asks if it is time for the Yankees to panic. Boston already has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, and Baltimore has improved its staff so dramatically, I worry that we won't see the Yankees in the playoffs this year. Wow, can you imagine?

The guys in pinstripes better do something soon. According to the New York Post, the Boss (George Steinbrenner, or as I like to call him King George) is coming up from Tampa. Perhaps he'll trade for a second baseman, who swings for the fences. For sure, he isn't happy, and heads may roll.

I'm sure we'll see a different team in June.

There's a lot of babseball left to play starting with Tampa Bay on Tuesday. We've played the role of underdog so many times, let's not lose sight of the Devil Rays. This young team could really spoil the party.
