This ship is on the rocks

Lackluster pitching and a couple of errors has the Denver Post and the Rockies thinking sweep. Unbelievable. The worst team in the National League, perhaps in all of baseball, is in position to knock the Red Sox down a couple of notches.

The Rocky Mountain News writes the Rockies glad to take two-for-won. I thought Arroyo and Schilling may struggle due to their pitching styles. Derek Lowe is our last hope at respectability. MLB.com's takes a look at tonight's game.

Curt Schilling just didn't look himself on the mound on Wednesday. Projo.com's writes Schilling blames himself. I expect nothing less from Schilling. Always willing to take it on the chin. It's true, he didn't have the command. He walked four batters and gave up five earned runs. But while he insists its not his ankle, I can't help but wonder.

The Hartford Courant writes Schilling may still go on DL. If Boston loses Schilling for an extended period of time, this team could be in serious trouble. It currently sits five games behind the Yankees and Anaheim is creeping up for the wild-card spot.

While I may have pondered trading for the Royals Beltran, my thoughts have quickly changed. We may very well need some healthy starters in the very near future in order to remain in the hunt for that elusive world championship.

According to ESPN's Rumor Central, the Red Sox may have interest in the Rockies starter Jason Jennings. Jennings pitched against the Sox last night and currently has a 6.75 ERA. You may think that is a bit inflated due to Coors Field, however his ERA away from Coors is 6.75 as well. Acquiring Jennings is not the answer. However, Seattles' Freddy Garcia would certainly fill a need.

The dream of seeing Nomar in a Red Sox uniform next year is fading. So much so that the organization may have to consider trading him. I'd hate to see it happen, but Boston can't just let him go without any compensation.

I'm disappointed with the treatment Nomar is getting from most of the media. Bostondirtdogs.com has a photo of a baby crying with excerpts of Nomar's comments. The Boston Herald has Nomar whining. Only the Globe, who owns part of the Red Sox, has given Nomar even the vaguest amount of support. It reports that the star shortstop is still in "training" phase. With all the negative publicity, fans better get ready to say goodbye. The writing is on the wall or at least in the newspapers. Garciaparra is not happy about what people have been saying. According to the Boston Herald, Nomar lashes out at critics Has everyone gone nuts? Nomar is the best player on this club, playing the toughest position with an injury to his Achilles tendon.

Nomar rushed his return, to appease those who suggested he was doggin' it. It's the Achilles tendon. Do you know how much stress that part of the body endures during a game, especially from a shortstop. Nomar actually has displayed some incredible range considering the injury. He is making good contact with the ball. He appears to be giving it his all, even when he probably should be playing more gingerly.

Reader comments: What do you think the Red Sox should do, if anything, in order to right the ship?
