No squirrel but cap racks up another win
Well, this may be a surpirse to you, but apparently one can not have a pet squirrel in the state of Maine. Well, at least with out the proper licenses and permits. Bummer. Even without the squirrel, the Red Sox won again Thursday. This cap is pretty powerful stuff.
Bronson Arroyo was spectacular. His curve was dropping off the table leaving many a Tiger shaking their heads. It was something to watch. The Boston Herald writes the Cagey Arroyo had Tigers by the tail. You can find the greatest puns in sports headines.
Arroyo has earned my respect. Granted the Tigers aren't the scariest team, but Arroyo carries himself well. He's got great control evidenced by his very respectful 1.24 WHIP. CTnow.com also praised the pitcher's outing (Arroyo looks right at home) His record would be better if he had some run support earlier. Plus the outing against Tampa Bay should have been managed differently. He still has a shot at 10 wins for the season.
Did you know that the Red Sox actually have two more wins this year than they did at this point last season? Incredible. The Boston Globe reports on the surging Sox. While we may be doing better than last year, so are many other teams. The Angels, Rangers and Athletics have also improved. Even the Yankees have a better record. The next month will be brutal. Each game will have us cheering or jeering.
Boston.com speculates that everything changed when a certain No. 5 was moved. It's like beating a dead horse. Why does the media keep resurecting the past? I can't stand it.
Derek Lowe will take the mound tonight (Friday) for Boston. The Detroit Free Press writes that the next time the Tigers see Lowe pitch, it could be for them. He would certainly be an improvement, but the Tigers need a real ace. I think the change of scenery may do Lowe some good. At the end of the year Lowe will probably part. He will forever, at least in my mind, be remembered as part of the greatest Red Sox trade ever (Healthcliff Slocumb for Varitek and Lowe). It makes me giggle. Sorry Seattle.
For now, barring some dramatic waiver acquisition, the 40-man roster will remain the same. Many times a team will call up its prospects in September, to see what they have to offer. In Boston, the expanded roster will most likely bring back some of our injured players: Nixon, Kim, Youkilis, among others. Wow, what a bench. The real question will be who will stay for the playoffs. I'm sure September will be fun. The Globe writes Nixon is back in the swing. I hope, they do not rush him. We are doing fairly well and will need his power and defense in the playoffs. Regardless, his return is good news.
Talk about returns MLB.com reports Jason Varitek is expected back tonight after serving his four-game suspension. Please re-sign him, now.
I also will be returning to Fenway tonight. For the first time this year, I'll be seeing what the Boston Herald calls "balanced attack" of the Red Sox live. I'm excited. With the new arrival (Ruby), I have not yet seen a game. It will be my daughter's first taste of Friendly Fenway. At three-months, it should be interesting for the whole family.
I'm off, cap on my head, ready for a great night of baseball. Look for me in Section 17, Row 3.
Reader comments: I will not be there today, but for me the best seats in Fenway Park are left field box. Where do you like to sit when visiting Fenway?
