A cheater plays with Jeter
The Boston Herald has a great line about last night's incident: "It doesn't take Alex Rodriguez long to make enemies."
This is not the first time that Alex Rodriguez has gotten himself into a little controversy. Mind you, his action Tuesday is not nearly as bad as the slapping incident during the 2004 ALCS.
Regardless, it is a cheap shot.
Breaking up double plays is what a runner is supposed to do. I get it. But jumping up and throwing an elbow is not how to do it.
How the umpires missed that call is beyond me. Not to mention the fact that Pedroia still made the play to first and Posada was OUT. It was a great play that unfortunately was missed by at least two umps.
Where was Francona? Why didn't Pedroia argue the call or bring it to the attention of the ump?
A rookie lesson? Nah, it's called class. Something that A-Rod has not displayed.
Now, the Sox have decisions to make: Retaliate? When? How?
These questions will be answered by Curt Schilling.
The powerful right-handed pitcher is old-school. I'm sure he is thinking that he has to plunk A-Rod. It's his way to "protect" his teammates.
I'm not sure I buy into that philosophy. But it's A-Rod, so I'll make an exception.
Just don't hit him in the head.
More on A-Rod:
The blogs are surprisingly empty of updates however I did find two related entries:
The Red Sox Monster has a few comments on the slide.
Not that this has anything to do with Tuesday's game, but RealGMbaseball questions whether A-Rod will stay in the Bronx after the season.
The guy still leads the league in home runs and RBIs, and he's calling it a cooling. I'm not so sure. When it is all said and done, A-Rod will top 50 home runs with 120 rbis and 120 runs scored for a second-place team.
Whether he stays in New York? Well...the weather in California is much better than on the East Coast. I hope he stays in New York; it makes the victories sweeter.

what is it with fanatical Boston Fans and their hatred for A-Rod. Remember, you all, not too long ago all of New England was salivating at the prospect of getting A-Rod. Now, when he does things he's always done, you gasp, stomp and hrrumph at what a piece of [work] A-Rod is. He's a lot of things, but A-Rod is also the best player in baseball on the most iconic organization in professional sports.
Why not save some feigned outrage for the next time "Manny is being Manny?"

Casey, it's nice to see that someone feels for A-Rod. He needs all the support he can get. After all he will never amount to the stardom that his neighbor on the field (Jeter) has.
New Yorker's don't really like A-Rod, but then again, you are in Memphis, so you wouldn't know that.
Based on the numbers, who wouldn't have wanted A-Rod? It all looks good on paper, but the New York / Boston, media and fans can break a player down. I don't think that anyone could have anticipated A-Rod for a cheater. But the 2 pictures are worth a thousand words.

I am in New York and I can tell you that the vast majority of Yankees fans like Al. As long as he keeps dinging homers he'll feel the love. Talk around town is that Boston needs to get punched in the mouth more often. I'd settle for the next guy getting drilled after Manny stares at his homerun. He didn't stare last night but you know he will again. Watch out JD Drew, your about to get hit.

If A-Rod gets hit by Curt Schilling he should do nothing but jog to first base. Next time up, however, he should swing with all his might and let the bat helicopter out toward the pitcher's mound. It won't be blood dripping down Schilling's leg and staining his sock.

yeah Yankee fans are going to be pretty pissed when they realize a-rods "hot start" will only hurry along his flight from new york. You can't really think he cares for the team now? This offseason he is going to stretch out on his pretty numbers. He could care less if he is in a Yankee uniform.

u:shah,
There is nothing in that article that says NY dislikes A-Rod. Did you read it?
