Gearing up...
Okay, so we are only days away from spring training and two months away from the beginning of baseball season. I can't wait.
In fact, I'm so pumoed I went out and got my first of many fantasy baseball mags.
I really only use these for three purposes - 1.) get a sense of next years rookie class; 2.) take a look at the mock draft and 3.) a good laugh.
Some of these writers have an obvious sense of humor not to mention the mock draft can be a hoot.
For instance in this particular mag, the second person selected overall was Jose Reyes. Wow!
Now, nothing against Reyes - I actually quite like him and considering the amount of good, quality shortstops he is by far one of the best - but second overall, I'm flabergasted.
After years participating in three leagues, I have whittled it down to one auction-style league.
So this tells me that Reyes, for my money, will be way too expensive to make it on my roster, which is unfortunate. He'll probably go for $50 (or more) in my league. That's 1/6 of my $300. Ouch.
So it would appear I'll be looking for my speed elsewhere, if at all.
I mean it is only one category, right?
Wrong? When it comes to winning a particular league title, you can not be pulling up the rear in any category. I've tried it and lost.
But I've also have a few titles under my belt to know where to place my attention.
Speed will be addressed but not by the upper-tier thieves. My hope is to acquire a team in which every guy contributes (if only a little bit) to that category.
For me, it's all about the power. For every home run that is a run scored and at least one RBI. That's where my money will be spent - no doubt.
Ah, but it is early. By the time I sit down in the war room, this mag will be utterly useless.
But after 17 years in fantasy leagues, I should be able to write my own. One would hope.
