Coaching right or wrongs...

As a newly appointed coach, I now take notice of what other coaches say to their players, what they say in interviews, or any other printed or taped conversations I can put in the memory bank of info. Somethings I really take interest in, other things I'll leave out of the file. As I may have stated before, many of the coaches I have played for made an impression one way or another, and I often find myself reverting back to them as situations arise during the work week. This past week a well known coach found himself on the front page of every sports section, as well as every talk radio show. Now, before I mention this situation, let me first preface it with a few thoughts. Coaches come in all shapes and sizes, and believe me, I have played for them all. The late Bob Johnson, who was like a father to his players, and for the short period I played for him never said one negative thing to our team. Can you imagine having your boss come in everyday and tell you what a great job you are doing, even in the worst of times? I'll tell you, it sure is fun to play for a guy like that and to be honest the guys played so hard for him. You felt guilty when you didn't. The man who coined the the phrase "It's a great day for hockey" will forever remain in my memories because of his positive energy and message. and who can argue with his success. On the flip side, there is "Iron" Mike Keenan, who was equally successful in a totally different approach. Mike Keenan challenged his players to confront him and he loved players to stand up for themselves and up to him. when a player backed down he was toast. But, he certainly rewarded those who got the message and tried to surround himself with these kind of guys. Not exactly my style, but when I played for him I believe he got the most I could give him. When he felt I had more, I certainly knew. I have heard stories of players of players going after him in his office and then singing his praises later. Let me make one thing perfectly clear. These are professional coaches and they get paid nice salaries to get their players to perform to the best of their ability and the bottom line in this profession is winning. They must wear many hats during the day. Sometimes the teacher, other times a psychologist or even a father type figure. They are coaching the best of the best. Many egos to deal with along with many personalities and nationalities. love them or hate them, they are hired to win and they must do it at any cost. I have been praised and confided in by some and others have screamed and humiliated me but in the end, I learned to respect all of them and talk of them as friends. Back to the situation the went on this past week. It involved Bobby Knight, one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history. Coach Knight is known for his fiery if not unorthodox methods of getting his players to follow his instructions. This past week Coach Knight was trying to convey a message to one of his players, and in an instant grabbed or slapped the player's chin to make him look at his eyes while he was talking to him. Of course with media coverage nowadays, this would not go unnoticed. some people called it abusive, others thought nothing of it. The best point about the whole issue, in my opinion was stated this way. this coach has won over 800 games and many titiles. He had one of the best recruiting classes in the country and has a reputation of some questionable methods. Still, players want to attend the universities he is coaching. They have a choice, yet they choose him.

I won't beat the subject to death, but I can't let this thought go. Every coach I have mentioned is at the highest level or at least the top collegiate level. it is my opinion that kids and teenagers are not professionals. That is just my opinion. So, why do coaches at this level base so much on winning and worse humiliate them during games? Let's all put it in perspective and realize that most kids are playing a sport because they like it and they like being with their friends. Let's help them enjoy it, not discourage them. Remember, they are not pros. Again, my opinion... I have always respected coaches who have been up front and honest with me. One of my favorites, Dave King, would show video and the video doesn't lie. If we made a mistake or if there was something we could do better, he would just tell us what to do and perform with more intensity. To take pride in doing things right. Not condescending, but succinct... Is it any secret how I want to coach?... I played in my first game as a retired player last night with some guys I know, and boy was it fun. I believe you never lose the love for the game, at any level, when you have been doing it for this long... One last note. I mentioned Alexei Kasatonov last entry, one of my idols, as well as his family. Today, I received a note from, Leo, his son, that brought tears to my eyes. Yes, even coaches cry. You probably won't see my actions on Sportscenter anytime soon, though... Weino

It's a delight to have you back in Maine. Your message is a powerful and inspirational one. It is that attitude that seem to make the Pirates stand out from the other teams. I played with you in a summer old timers game a few years ago and your intensity was not in the slightest deminished by your humility playing with us older guys.

You have a great outlook on the game and it also transmit to your upbringing and the joy you have had for both in the past years. I have followed your hockey career since child hood and you should be very proud of yourself.

Jeff is very upset with Detective Bill Zimmerman for
doubting him. Mr. Zimerman insulted Agent Bellami
and the agent has a temper unlike Mr. Fisher who is

Jeff told me he lived just behind the Oakdale Mall. He
said he used to ride a friends dirt bike, Honda and/or
Kawasaki, in the hills before they made it into the mall.
That was in the late 60's early 70's.

His name back then was Jeffrey Joseph Rogoff. Jeff had

The pastor met Jeff last Sunday prior to church. The pastor service
talked about many things including all about the power of the Internet.
One of the ushers was having a hissy fit because Jeff was calling overseas

The usher just doesn't understand that anyone can spread the word, not
just the pastor. Jeff walked out of the church and called his friend Jeremy
and talked about God for more than 30 minutes. His friend understands
what Jeff represents. I can't' yet because I am Jewish but I know he is

about it.

David's dad, Jeff, used to spend time in his bedroom at night helping
him fall asleep. Then he would go see his daughter Jamie Irene sleeping

campaign to run mainly by himself since his wife and family were adamantly

over her in that race.

about some kind of blackmail he used against her close to the

The Valerie Plame team had been investigating Litvinenko and his cohorts for direct links with the attempt to plant WMD in Iraq along with connections to 9-11, and the noted American Turkish Council. Yes, folks, Litvinenko knew Wildcard and he knew about the compromised cells on American soil. All tied to Russian-Israeli rogue mafia.

Reference: The U.S. FBI along with Patrick Fitzgerald is now looking at a possible connection between Litvinenko and the assassination of Judge Lefko's husband in Chicago, Illinois at the time that Judge Lefko was involved in the Valerie Plame case tied to the Chicago money laundry scheme at Bear Stearns.

It can now be reported that the FBI has tape recorded conversations in which the three Israelis discuss the need to bring the United States up to speed on how it feels to live and experience life under terrorist attack.

It can now be reported that Litvinenko was also the mastermind of the Chechnya School shooting which allowed Putin, like Bushfraud, to impose emergency conditions on the Russian population.

And of course now it gets really worse. It can now be reported that Litvinenko had ties to a British Mi6 front, named ERINSYS Ltd. in London, England. This British Corporate Intelligence front had connections not only to the Iraqi National Congress but noted swindler and liar Ahmad Chalabi. That's right, folks, Chalabi. The report follows two new surveys that criticize Israel and the role that the pro-Israel lobby plays in shaping American foreign policy.

FBI Widens Probe of AIPAC

WASHINGTON, 26 November 2006 — A startling new report claims that the federal investigation into the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobbying organization, has been expanded to include suspicion of meddling in affairs of the House Intelligence Committee.

The report follows two new surveys that criticize Israel and the role that the pro-Israel lobby plays in shaping American foreign policy.

A recent poll by Zogby International found Americans almost evenly split on whether the pro-Israel lobby was a key factor in influencing the Bush Administration to invade Iraq and take a tough stand against Iran’s nuclear program. A poll commissioned by the Council for the National Interest and conducted by Zogby International found that 39 percent agreed with the statement that “the work of the Israel lobby on Congress and the Bush Administration has been a key factor for going to war in Iraq and now confronting Iran” — areas in which public support for military action has dropped dramatically. Forty percent disagreed with the statement.

In a separate study exploring the views of faculty members at American universities, a significant percentage of scholars identified United States’ link to Israel as a serious threat to global stability.”

Shortly after the surveys were released, Time magazine posted an article on its website alleging that the FBI is investigating claims of an improper deal between AIPAC and Rep. Jane Harman of California, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

According to the report, the deal alleged that, in the event Democrats took control of Congress, AIPAC would lobby for Harman to become the chair of that committee. In return, she would be expected to press the White House and Justice Department to go easy on Keith Weisman and Steven Rosen, the two former AIPAC executives who are being prosecuted under the Espionage Act for allegedly communicating classified information to Israeli diplomats.

Washington insiders are downplaying the likelihood that an investigation regarding Harman and AIPAC would lead to any formal charges of wrongdoing. But the allegations — along with the upcoming trial of Rosen and Weisman, and the recent book deal signed by two of the pro-Israel lobby’s most prominent and vocal critics, scholars Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer — are likely to trigger increased media and public scrutiny of the pro-Israel lobby’s efforts to influence the decision-making process in Washington.

According to Time, AIPAC allegedly agreed to get wealthy donors to lobby House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to appoint Harman to the post.

Federal officials told The New York Times that such an investigation had indeed been opened, although they said that the inquiry was “no longer being actively pursued.”
