Now that's embarrassing
Tuesday marks the second time I've been spotted, stupidly smoking a cigarette and/or holding a beer when someone's asked, "don't you write that Beach to Beacon blog?"
I say, "Yeah" enthusiastically, both because I appreciate that someone's reading (besides you, mom) and also because I'm hoping to distract him/her from the smoking butt in my hand. I figure, flash the pearly whites and maybe they'll be nice enough not to call me out.
They're not.
It doesn't follow - all this chatter about running ugly and skinny pants and oh! the chafing! Even I can't figure out how I've convinced myself that having a cigarette immediately after (and before - sometimes during [I'm just kidding!]) a run is OK. Or maintaining the habit during this training - it seems so counter-productive.
I admit I feel guilty when I'm caught smoking - almost as guilty as when good old (but not THAT old) mom asks, "How're you doing with the smoking."
I'm guess I'm doing fine, depending on your perspective.
I can't wait to see your mom's comment on this one. :)

Hmmmm! I'm not really sure HOW to handle this one! Kids don't come with "operating instuctions", unfortunately, and sometimes, despite my best intentions...well, you know the skinny on good intentions!!!!
On the one hand, I'm immensely proud of Shan...taking on yet another challenge and really putting herself "out there" on a public forum. I KNOW what she can achieve when she commits herself to something...though I can't say I'M SURPISED at her successes, I must admit I think sometimes she does surprise herself!
On the other hand, I must admit I'm surprised this time at her decision to cheat herself. I was so disappointed to hear she'd started smoking again (having beaten it once of her own volition...I can't tell you how proud I was when that happened, being a former smoker..2.5 packs a day...myself!!! I KNOW how hard that is!) But to make the CHOICE to start it up again....what sense does THAT make! And to do it on top of what is supposed to be this great "get out into that fabulous fresh air...ocean breeze...move that body...build that endurance..." commitment is beyond all logic! Now, I guess I should mention here that my "offspring of the feminine persuasion" is regularly given to the strongest of "logical" arguments (at least she makes them SOUND logical) in support of things that I believe, by their very nature, are ILLOGICAL ... smoking being one of them!
When all is said and done, however, I must admit the BUTT in her hand is NOT the one that concerns me!!!
