Wrapping Things Up!
Tuesday was my final day to enjoy the bright sunshine of lovely Fort Myers, Florida. My flight departs early on Wednesday morning and I should arrive back in Portland by three o'clock. After spending nearly eight days away from the cold, you might think I'm not looking forward to coming back - you'd be wrong! I love the warm weather but I enjoy the start of the baseball season more than sipping ice-tea by the pool. Opening Day at Hadlock Field is right around the corner and getting back into the daily routine of broadcasting baseball is the best feeling in the world.
On my final day, I traveled to different complexes, wishing good luck to friends on their start to a new season.
I stopped by the Red Sox game and received the news of a trade made by Boston with the Baltimore Orioles. Former Bowie Baysox outfielder Cory Keylor joins the Red Sox Organization and could be assigned to Portland, we’ll have wait and see. Keylor was traded by the O’s for Catcher Alberto Castillo, who slated for Triple-A Pawtucket. A strange trade made by the Orioles but they are seeking a backup catcher with Major League experience. It doesn't matter how great a player is, if he has big league time, you have to give up prospects (see Jeff Bagwell trade). As much as fans don't like it, that's the way the game has been for years. But!!!! Keylor, who put up outstanding numbers last season (.294, 10 HR, 68 RBI), was the Orioles 2006 Minor League Player of the Year!
I would like to thank MaineToday.com for setting up this blog for the upcoming season. Throughout 2007, I'll be posting updates from the road and Chris Cameron will keep this site looking great when the 'Dogs play at Hadlock.
It's that time of year again, Sox and Sea Dogs about to start. What a great double play combination!
